Overview: This case study focuses on Iceland’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), where climate change is reshaping fisheries in one of Europe’s most important seafood-producing regions.
Challenges: Climate change impacts are already being felt, but mitigation and adaptation efforts are still developing. There is a need to reduce environmental impacts while maintaining a highly productive seafood industry.
Solutions: Advance more selective fishing gear, develop climate-adaptive fishing strategy tools, and apply environmental management software across the seafood value chain. Explore sustainable use of underutilised species, including zooplankton.
