Blue Resource / Sjókovin, MeCCAM project coordinator, participated in the Faroese Annual Researcher Night, held in September 2025. The annual event gathers researchers, institutions, and the general public to learn more about science, attracting around 1,000 participants each year with activities designed for both children and adults.
Event Overview
Blue Resource / Sjókovin hosted an interactive booth highlighting the social, economic, and ecological dimensions of fisheries. Visitors had the chance to engage in a variety of educational and entertaining activities, including:
- Maze games following marine food webs
- Counting Tobis in a puffin’s catch
- Completing questionnaires on fisheries statistics
- Constructing graphs using Magna-Tiles and Plus-Plus
- Solving a marine-themed Sudoku puzzle
Participants of all ages took part, combining learning with play. These activities visualised the importance of fisheries while introducing statistical, logical, and deductive thinking, key skills in science and research.
MeCCAM project partner Faroe Marine Research Institute, Havstovan, also joined the event, presenting a display of local fish species collected from their research vessel, Jákup Sverri.
