We kicked things off with a warm welcome from the Faroese Minister of Fisheries and Infrastructure, Jóhan Christiansen, followed by opening remarks from project coordinator Unn Laksá of Blue Resource / Sjókovin. She welcomed all project partners to the Faroe Islands – the “navel of the world.”
Though small in size, with just over 54,500 inhabitants, the Faroe Islands still has an impressive landing of 12 tonnes of fish per capita each year.
After some fun icebreakers led by Michaela Aschan, we heard from our sister project Infinifish, our cousin OCCAM Project, and the MarineGuardian project. Then it was down to business – diving into synergies across work packages and case studies.
Over the next few days, we’ll be deepening collaboration and discussions to lay a strong foundation for MeCCAM.
